Creatine Monohydrate Effects of creatine on mental fatigue and cerebral hemoglobin oxygenation

چکیده
While the role of creatine in preventing muscle (peripheral) fatigue for high performance athletes is well understood, its biochemical role in prevention of mental (central) fatigue is not. Creatine is abundant in muscles and the brain and after phosphorylation used as an energy source for adenosine triphosphate synthesis. Using double-blind placebo-controlled paradigm, we demonstrated that dietary supplement of creatine (8 g/day for 5 days) reduces mental fatigue when subjects repeatedly perform a simple mathematical calculation. After taking the creatine supplement, task-evoked increase of cerebral oxygenated hemoglobin in the brains of subjects measured by near infrared spectroscopy was significantly reduced, which is compatible with increased oxygen utilization in the brain. _______________________________________________________________________________________ Oral creatine supplementation enhances upper extremity work capacity in persons with cervical-level spinal cord injury Patrick L. متن کاملCreatine monohydrate in ALS: Effects on strength, fatigue, respiratory status and ALSFRS
Our objective was to determine the effect of creatine monohydrate on disease progression in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). One hundred and seven patients with the diagnosis of probable or definite ALS, of less than five years duration from symptom onset, were randomized to either treatment with daily creatine monohydrate (5 g/d) or placebo. In this multicenter, double-blinde...
متن کاملThe Effect of Creatine Monohydrate Loading on Downhill Running-induced Inflammatory Response in Elite Male Mountaineers
Abstract Background & Aims: In regard to the limited studies about the effect of creatine on exercise-induced inflammatory responses, the present study was conducted to identify the effect of creatine monohydrate loading on response of serum C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and peripheral blood leucocytes following one bout downhill running in male mountain climbers. Methods: Twen...
متن کاملEffect of low-dose, short-duration creatine supplementation on anaerobic exercise performance.
To examine the efficacy of a low-dose, short-duration creatine monohydrate supplement, 40 physically active men were randomly assigned to either a placebo or creatine supplementation group (6 g of creatine monohydrate per day). Testing occurred before and at the end of 6 days of supplementation. During each testing session, subjects performed three 15-second Wingate anaerobic power tests. No si...
متن کاملEffects of Creatine and Sodium Bicarbonate Coingestion on Multiple Indices of Mechanical Power Output During Repeated Wingate Tests in Trained Men.
This study investigated the effects of creatine and sodium bicarbonate coingestion on mechanical power during repeated sprints. Nine well-trained men (age = 21.6 ± 0.9 yr, stature = 1.82 ± 0.05 m, body mass = 80.1 ±12.8 kg) participated in a double-blind, placebo-controlled, counterbalanced, crossover study using six 10-s repeated Wingate tests. Participants ingested either a placebo (0.5 g·kg(...
